Dr. John Lyon has been practicing ophthalmology for the past 25 years and has been practicing in Laurel for the past 18 years. He earned his M.D. from The Medical College of Georgia, and completed specialized training in ophthalmology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where in addition to general ophthalmology, he was trained in specialties including corneal diseases, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, retina and vitreous diseases, pediatrics and strabismus, plastic surgery, contact lenses, and low vision rehabilitation. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Lyon performed his first three years of private practice in Birmingham. In addition to Dr. Lyon’s Laurel location, in 2022, he expanded his clinic to serve patients in Meridian and its surrounding communities.
Dr. Lyon is highly skilled in cataract and intraocular lens implant surgery. Dr. Lyon provides general and urgent eye care for patients of all ages, as well as screening for such conditions as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. Dr. Lyon is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
